The Boil/Bottle Water Advisory for The City of Amery was lifted on Saturday, June 17th, and residents and businesses can return to using water as normal. Water samples taken on Friday, June 16th came back clean and did not contain bacteria. The water sample that came back positive for bacteria was taken on June 14th and was contaminated during transportation by the lab company. The City of Amery was not the only municipality that had water transported by the lab company on June 14th come back positive for bacteria. Water samples had been sent in for testing on June 13th, and those samples were clean. We apologize for and inconvenience this caused businesses and residents. The City of Amery regularly tests the City water to ensure that it is safe for use, and the City will be switching lab companies to try and avoid a repeat event. If, in a rare occurrence, a sample comes back outside of normal, in accordance with DNR procedure, a Precautionary Boil/Bottle Water Advisory is released. This could be caused by cross-contamination of the samples, testing/operator error, or other causes. The City worked diligently to notify as many people as possible about the Boil/Bottle Water Advisory, and is now working on a system for mass communication in the future.
